40 year old point guard Steve Nash just cannot be found. What does this mean? It means that Steve Nash has become the coveted hot girl and Byron Scott is the guy desperately looking for some affection. Reports came out on Saturday that Steve Nash has not been around the team, and has shown little attempt to take on a mentoring role for the young guys on the Lakers. Nash has apparently been dodging Byron Scott’s calls, but Scott doesn’t hold hard feelings, “It didn’t upset me one bit. Hopefully I’ll reach out to him again and we can talk or I can get a return call.”
What can we conclude from this?
- Maybe Steve Nash didn’t pay his phone bill for the last few months and his provider has cut him off (did AT&T mix him up with another Stephen Nash in LA?)
- Maybe his kids have hidden his phone in attempts to get more time with their papa-bear (family time is essential)
- Maybe he’s just going through a hard time with his injuries after getting criticized for his golfing video (fans are so critical…)
- Maybe he doesn’t care about mentoring young players anymore (really?)
- Maybe he doesn’t want to hear from the coach because he’s afraid of getting yelled at over the phone (again…really?)
Who knows why Steve Nash hasn’t returned Byron Scott’s calls. It’s extremely difficult for us to jump to conclusions about Nash because we don’t know what he’s going through in his personal life, or if he’s even in the city. What if Scott only called once at 2am and, like so many of us, Nash just forgot to call him back (maybe he’ll be reminded now that Scott has talked to the media who will inevitably remind Nash).
The Lakers have the worst start in franchise history (1-8) and show no signs of looking up. But a few positive things can be taken away from the Lakers this year:
- Kobe is shooting more than ever, and let’s face it, we all love watching Kobe shoot even if he misses
- Linsanity is in Hollywood…that’s it, there’s not much else to talk about
- Carlos Boozer’s ever lasting support for his team
- And Kobe taking on a mentoring role for younger players. We can constantly see Kobe talking to Jeremy Lin explaining how to improve his game, and we’ve all heard the friendly banter between Kobe and Swaggy P over the off-season
Hopefully Nash will follow Kobe’s lead soon and take on a full veteran presence for the Lakers as he did for the Suns with younger guards like Barbosa and Goran Dragić. But until then, we can continue to watch Steve Nash videos on YouTube to remind us how creative he truly was despite what Shaq thinks of him.
